Privacy Notice

PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR PRIVACY NOTICE HAS CHANGED, EFFECTIVE APRIL 2016

Square One Advertising, Inc.. (hereinafter, “Sq1”, “we”, or “us”) respects the privacy of visitors to its website. In order to view our site, it is not necessary that you provide us with any personally identifiable information about yourself, although use of certain content/functionality on our site does require that you provide personally identifiable information. We have adopted this Privacy Notice to explain what information may be collected on our website, how we may use this information, and under what circumstances we may disclose the information to third parties.

By using our website, you consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your information, including your personally identifiable information, by Sq1 in accordance with the terms of our Privacy Notice in effect at that time. You acknowledge that we have the right, at our sole discretion, to modify, add or remove any terms or conditions of this Privacy Notice without prior notice or liability to you. Any changes to this Privacy Notice shall be effective immediately following the posting of such changes on our website. For this reason, we encourage you to check this Privacy Notice from time to time.

WHEN YOU ACCESS OUR WEBSITE, YOU AGREE TO THIS PRIVACY NOTICE. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THIS PRIVACY NOTICE, OR TO ANY CHANGES WE MAY SUBSEQUENTLY MAKE, IMMEDIATELY STOP ACCESSING OUR WEBSITE.

A. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Our website typically collects two (2) kinds of information about you: (a) information that you provide that personally identifies you, and (b) information that does not personally identify you that we automatically collect when you visit our website, or that you provide to us.

1. Personally Identifiable Information

Our definition of personally identifiable information includes any information that may be used to specifically identify you, and that you provide to us, such as your full name, email address, postal address, phone number, company name, associated company information, etc. The primary reasons we collect personally identifiable information are to: provide access to certain content and services, contact you, and understand your use of our site.

2. Nonpersonal Information

Our definition of nonpersonal information is any information that does not personally identify you. Nonpersonal information can include certain personally identifiable information that has been de-identified; that is, information that has been rendered anonymous. Nonpersonal information is collected on an ongoing basis and relates to the number of visitors to the website, which pages visitors access, the type of browser, IP address and operating system used, the name of the Internet service provider, etc.

B. HOW WE USE & SHARE THE INFORMATION COLLECTED

1. Personally Identifiable Information

We may share your personally identifiable information with Sq1’s affiliated companies. Other than as provided in this Privacy Notice, Sq1 will not disclose, sell or share any of your personally identifiable information with any unrelated third parties (with the exception of third parties performing functions on our behalf who have an obligation to keep your information confidential) unless we have your permission to do so. We may, however, disclose some information if we believe in good faith that it is necessary to prevent a crime or an injury to, or interference with, Sq1’s rights or property, or the rights or property of a third party. We may also disclose information if we believe in good faith that the law requires it, to take precautions against legal liability and/or to comply with a judicial proceeding, court order or legal process. As part of our goal to understand the companies and businesses visiting our site, we may also share IP addresses with a third party to append a company name and associated company information, which helps us understand who is visiting our site and the information being viewed. Information about nonbusiness site visitors is not used other than to provide requested information at the discretion of Sq1, and Sq1 reserves the right to not provide requested information.

Pixel tags, web beacons or similar technology in our emails may be used to track your interactions with those messages such as when you receive and open them or click a link contained in the email message. This helps us understand and improve their content to be more relevant to you.

Sq1 retains data only as long as it is required to fulfill the reason for collection. Once the useful life has ended, the data will be removed from use and destroyed using generally accepted data practices.

Privacy rights applicable to residents of the State of California

Sq1 does not disclose your personal information to third-parties for their own marketing use unless you are first given the opportunity to opt-in or out; therefore Sq1 is exempt from meeting this California requirement. If you still wish to learn more about Sq1’s compliance to this requirement, please contact us (See Section G).

2. Non-personal Information

We do collect information through the use of cookies and other similar technologies (See Section C for additional information related to cookies and tracking), and by observing browser functions and the files (pages) users access (on our site as well as pages visited before and after visiting the Sq1 website) to better serve you with more tailored information and facilitate your ongoing use of our site and our services. We and our third-party service providers may also aggregate personal information in a manner such that the end product does not personally identify you or any other person, including the use of personal information to calculate the number of customers we have in a particular state.

C. COOKIES AND TRACKING

If you do not want information collected through the use of cookies, there is a simple procedure in most browsers that allows you to decline the use of cookies. You can also delete the cookie we set for you. This will eliminate our ability to link your past behavior with future behavior, but we will be able to monitor your future behavior based on a new cookie we supply (n.b., it is possible that cookies will be placed on your device when you visit the Sq1 website in the future depending on your actions).

To control flash cookies, which we may use on our website, you can go HERE (http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager07.html). Flash cookies cannot be controlled through browser settings.

Declining and/or deleting cookies on one browser may not delete them on all browsers. If you use multiple browsers on your device, you may need to change setting and delete cookies in each browser.

Choices and decisions related to Sq1 web site cookies on one device will not transfer across devices. Actions to opt-out should be done on each device used to access Sq1’s website.

Some functionality or features may be unavailable without the use of cookies.

Elimination or blocking of Sq1 cookies will not stop third-party advertising cookies from collecting information about your habits and presenting Sq1 ads. See Section E related to managing online advertising.

Do Not Track general disclosures also applicable to the State of California Residents

Do Not Track is a privacy preference that users can set in their web browsers. When a user turns on the Do Not Track signal, the browser sends a message to websites requesting them not to track the user. At this time, we do not respond to Do Not Track browser settings or signals. For information about Do Not Track, please visit: www.allaboutdnt.org.

As described above, we deploy cookies and describe how to manage them. Third-party cookies may also track you for online advertising purposes. Section E describes your options related to online advertising.

D. THIRD-PARTY CONTENT

When you are on the website, certain content may be served by a third party.

E. ONLINE ADVERTISING

Sq1 believes in transparency and consumer choice as it relates to online advertising it places for itself and its clients. Sq1 makes every effort to work with third-parties that are members of the DAA (Digital Advertising Alliance) and the NAI (Network Advertising Initiative), their associated self-regulation policies, and offer you, the consumer, the ability to opt-out of their members’ online behavioral advertising. The sites are:

You should visit both sites since they may provide opt-outs from different member companies. These sites also explain your choices and provide answers to frequently asked questions. Your choices may be device and browser specific. Specific websites of DAA and NAI members may offer additional options.

Please note: Disabling cookies or clearing cookies may impact the choices you make on the DAA and NAI sites. Please refer to the links provided.

New technologies and services in online advertising, marketing and similar services may not be covered under DAA and NAI guidelines.

You may still see Sq1 ads on other websites for the following reasons: the ads may be based simply on content of the other website; or you are visiting a site we have purchased digital advertising due to the profile of the visitors in general; or due to advertising purchased by Sq1 through third-parties and using their services to provide behavioral targeting based on information collected about your browsing habits such as pages you have visited or searched.

F. KEEPING YOUR INFORMATION SECURE

We have implemented security measures we consider reasonable and appropriate to protect against the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. Please be advised, however, that while we strive to protect your personally identifiable information and privacy, we cannot guarantee or warrant the security of any information you disclose or transmit to us online and are not responsible for the theft, destruction or inadvertent disclosure of your personally identifiable information. In the unfortunate event that your personally identifiable information (as the term or similar terms are defined by any applicable law requiring notice upon a security breach) is compromised, we may notify you by email (at our sole and absolute discretion) using the last email address you have provided to us in the most expedient time reasonable under the circumstances; provided, however, delays in notification may occur while we take necessary measures to determine the scope of the breach and restore reasonable integrity to the system, as well as for the legitimate needs of law enforcement if notification would impede a criminal investigation.
